Nerds Rock!

I LOVE being in the Young Women program! I'm the 2nd counselor, and thus get to plan lots of fun activities for the girls every week. This past week the Beehives were in charge of the combined activity and we decided to have a Daddy/Daughter Nerd night. Everyone came dressed up and we played various games like:

"You Look Hairy Pretty Tonight" (dad's had to braid their girl's hair)
"Brain Busters" (which tested their true nerdiness)
"To Tie or Knot To Tie" (girl's had to tie a tie on their dad)
"A Close Shave" (girls gave their dad a shave- blindfolded and with a tongue depressor)
"Pick Your Nose" (dads put paper bags over their heads with holes for their noses to stick out and the girls had to guess which nose was their dad's)

It was a blast!

Gourmet Night

I had a great time hosting Gourmet Night at my place last night! As usual it was a blast (although we missed a few key members...). I got to bed around 4:00 a.m. and was up again at 6:30 to get the kids off to school, but it was well worth the sleep deprivation!

The Menu:
  • Italian Spread for Bread or Crackers
  • Focaccia
  • The Punch
  • Apple & Spiced Pecan Salad
  • Spinach Mushroom Ravioli with Garlic Cream Sauce
  • Chicken, Pine nut and Goat Cheese Ravioli with Roasted Red Pepper Sauce
  • White Chocolate Pumpkin Cheesecake with Pecan-Gingersnap Crust

The Seventh Day

The person who coined the phrase "Sunday is a day of rest" was most definitely a man.

There is NO resting for me on the seventh day, and it's driving me slowly insane. I miss the days of peaceful worshiping and spiritual growth. Sunday's for me now go something like this:

Wake up Get woken up {6:30 a.m.}.
Make breakfast {Hootenanny Pancakes. Every Sunday.}
Get a call from the home teachers saying they want to visit after church.
Clean the house so the home teachers can visit after church.
Bathe the children.
Iron everyone's clothes.
Realize I'm still in my bathrobe when they come to collect Fast Offerings, so quickly hide with the children behind the couch until they leave {Matt is inevitably in the shower whenever they come}.
Prepare the Fast Offering to take to church.
Take a shower and do my hair {if I'm lucky}.
Make lunch.
Dress the children.
*you may be asking where Matt is during all this.....two words- football season. {and he's usually dead tired because he's had a sleep-over with the kids downstairs the night before}
Go to church.
Sit on the bench {starting order- Matt, Lincoln, Jackson, Kensie, me & Landon}.
Matt gets asked to help with the Sacrament.
Children turn into holy terrors.
New bench order- Lincoln, me, Jackson, Kensie & Landon
Children giggle. Children fight. I pinch. I give "the look". People around me fear for their lives.
Matt comes back.
I leave with the baby to enjoy the meeting in the foyer.
I stay in the foyer for the next hour because the baby is dead tired and will NOT go to sleep and is only happy when I'm walking around.
I go to Young Women's where thankfully there are a billion willing babysitters who coo and coddle the wee one and I get to sit and listen to the lesson.
Come home.
Make dinner.
Children do sundry things to get on my nerves.
Family prayer {where the person praying always seems to bless us that we can be nice to one another. Could have used that prayer in the morning}.
Put the kids to bed.
Eat ice cream and watch Food Network {ahhhh, now there's the "rest"!}

*okay, okay. Not every Sunday is like this.........

Sometimes I don't have to make dinner.

Fall Soccer

Lincoln started soccer again this week. His team name is The Poison Snakes! He's excited to have Ethan and Corban on his team, as well as Coach Chad again as a coach. He scored a goal in the first game, and hopefully he'll get the hang of dribbling the ball this season!

Kindergarten!

Photobucket

Lincoln started Kindergarten on September 1st. He was so excited! His teacher this year is Mrs. Melzer, who is super nice. Because Lincoln was in the preschool at Ridgeline last year I was more relaxed about him starting Kindergarten {although I still had to follow the bus down for a few days to make sure he was okay.....and I did shed a tear or two....}. I think he'll have a great year, and I'm excited for him to learn lots of new things.

I must mention that when he went in for his Kindergarten assessment the week before we both walked out feeling a bit overwhelmed. Lincoln's pretty shy around people he doesn't know, and when the teacher started asking him questions he got even more nervous. He did pretty well until this question:
Mrs. Melzer- "I'm going to say a sentence and I want you to write what I say. I can see the black dog by the tree."
Lincoln- "uhhhhhhhh"

He got the "I"......

What pre-K kid knows how to do that {and don't tell me your kid does. I don't want to know....I'll feel like more of a failure.}??

Hiking Timp

Last week we hiked to the Timpanogos Caves with my family. It was fun having everyone there, even babies! The kids were really good hikers. Lincoln hiked the whole way and Jackson made it about 3/4 of the way before asking to be carried. Landon enjoyed the scenery from the carrier and even had a nap.

The caves were just as cool as I remembered, and the kids loved seeing all the animal shapes in the rocks! They especially loved the caramel falls and the salt and pepper shakers. Landon loved it in the caves and was looking around wide-eyed the whole time.

I love Jackson's face in this one!

Fall TV

Ahhh......

It's almost Fall TV premiere time.
I'm not gonna lie- I love my shows. I'm {sadly} prepping the DVR by deleting all my saved SYTYCD episodes.

And because I know you love your shows, too, I thought I'd provide you with a list culled from various generally reliable sources. All times are Pacific and Eastern. People in the flyover time zones probably already know that everything comes on an hour earlier there. Besides, you have DVRs, so what difference does it make what time it’s actually on? Asterisks (*) (that’s what an asterisk looks like) indicate new shows.

“Parks and Recreation” and “Greek” come back in January. “V” is sometime in November. “Friday Night Lights” will re-air on NBC next spring after premiering on DirecTV this fall. “Lost” got canceled.
