Day Twenty-Three: Let Go of Fear

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?

You are a child of God.
Your playing small does not serve the World.
There is nothing enlightening about shrinking so that other people will not feel insecure around you.
We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.
It is not just some of us; it is everyone.

And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."

-Nelson Mandela

True North

Looking for something fun to do? Look no further!

Please join the University of Utah Tanner Dance Program Children’s Dance Theatre for True North – an epic journey across the ice-bound Arctic territories of Canada. Far from civilization, in the middle of the vast ice fields of the North, a young child with no memory of her past mysteriously appears. A Pacific Northwest village takes her in and raises her as one of their own. Years later, the child receives a powerful vision that sends her on a quest in search of the answer to the riddle of her true identity. She makes her way northward across land and sea, through the realms of ancient spirits and wild animals, to True North... the home of the elusive Northern Lights.

more valentine fun

p.s. Third grade boys + Valentine's Day = hilarity

I was in charge of Valentine Bingo for Kensie's party, and the boys cringed when I called out "Love Me", rolled their eyes at "Hi, Doll", and made puking noises when I announced "Kiss, Kiss".

The girls, on the other hand, were totally into it Ü

Day Sixteen: Succeeding

"To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and to endure the betrayal of false friends. To appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded."

Day Fourteen: Love

Let me not to the marriage of true minds
Admit impediments. Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove:
O no! it is an ever-fixed mark
That looks on tempests and is never shaken;
It is the star to every wandering bark,
Whose worth's unknown, although his height be taken.
Love's not Time's fool, though rosy lips and cheeks
Within his bending sickle's compass come:
Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks,
But bears it out even to the edge of doom.
If this be error and upon me proved,
I never writ, nor no man ever loved.

Heart Day

We've been getting into the spirit around here....

So far we've had the usual fun with candy canes,

made some yummy treats {recipe here and here}

and made an Oracle of Love {Family Fun's version of the magic 8 ball}. Kensie LOVES this thing and asks it all sorts of questions. It's super easy to make, too.

Just get an empty jar {baby food jars work well. I had a marinated artichoke jar & used that}. Flatten a 1 inch Styrofoam ball with your thumb to create a cube with 6 sides.

Cut 6 hearts out of craft foam and write answers on each {I did yes, no, you bet, never, maybe, and ask again}. Use a glue gun to attach hearts to the cube, place in the jar and fill with water to the top. Make sure the lid is on tight! Now you can decorate the jar.

They recommended using modeling clay to cover the jar, which I didn't have. I just covered it in paper and craft foam, leaving the bottom exposed, and mod podged the whole thing.
So fun!

Next up, making valentines.....

A Month Of Quotes

I love quotes. I love reading the inspiring words of others. I have an entire journal dedicated to quotes, thoughts and poems that I love.

Each day this month I will be posting one {or two...or more....} of my favorites- just because I love them so {and also in case something should ever happen to my beloved journal, which incidentally is covered in astroturf. It's awesome.}.

Day One

Friendship

"We cannot tell the precise moment when friendship is formed. As in filling a vessel drop by drop, there is at last a drop which makes it run over; so in a series of kindnesses there is at last one which makes the heart run over."
-James Boswell

"Each friend represents a world in us, a world possibly not born until they arrive, and it is only by this meeting that a new world is born."
-Anais Nin
