Parenting 101

If you insist on listening to the real radio in the car because you are sick of hearing "The Wheels On The Bus" and other hits, your children may begin to love songs that they probably shouldn't. Case in point- today in the car:

Kensie (singing along to the radio)- "Try to make me go to rehab, I say..."
Lincoln- "No, no, no"
Kensie- humming to the tune because she doesn't know the next line....
Lincoln- "No, no, no"

I guess there are worse songs they could like, right?? or not!

Bedtime

Kensie got Lincoln ready for bed tonight and this is the result...Matt is working late tonight, so I'm letting Lincoln wear this to bed! I don't know that Matt would approve of the flower top and silk bottoms!!

3 weeks having 3

-So, it's been 3 weeks now since Jackson was born. I can't believe how time flies! Things are going really well. Nursing has been much better since I discovered I had a breast infection (so not fun!) and got on meds. I'm still a little sore from the c-section, but am starting to feel up for things like walking through Ikea :) However, I think I over-did it today when Lincoln fell (or jumped...it could have been either!) off the bunk bed ladder and I had to run up the stairs to see if any limbs were broken (I don't think any were, but he keeps complaining that his toe hurts- we'll see!).

-Jackson has a belly button issue that I'm hoping will resolve itself. Lincoln had the same problem- when their cords fell off, the belly button was not completely healed & continued to ooze. Lincoln had to get his frozen with silver nitrate 3 times before it finally stopped. Jackson's is oozing bad enough that they can't freeze it yet. I have to take him to Primary Children's on Friday for an ultrasound to see if he has a cyst in his abdomen that is draining out of his belly button. If he does, he'll have to have surgery to repair it. I'm hoping he won't have to go through that! Keep your fingers crossed.

-The kids are starting to ease up on the Jackson-infatuation. I can actually put him in the swing & get things done for a little bit, which is nice! Kensie is great with him & loves holding him while I take a shower, make dinner, etc.

-So, all in all, I'm really relieved at how great going from 2 to 3 has been (so far!). We'll see what the future has in store, but for now I'm so good :) All you who are contemplating #3, go for it! It's awesome!!

I Heart Candy

Did you know that June is National Candy Month? Sweet! Here's a yummy recipe you might enjoy-

Butterfinger Popcorn Balls

6 cups popped popcorn

3 Butterfinger Candy Bars, chopped

1/4 cup butter or margarine

3 1/2 cups miniature marshmallows

Nonstick cooking spray

Combine popcorn and chopped Butterfinger in large bowl. Melt butter in medium saucepan over low heat. Stir in marshmallows. Heat, stirring constantly, until marshmallows are melted and mixture is smooth. Pour over popcorn mixture; quickly toss to coat well. Spray hands with nonstick cooking spray. Form popcorn mixture into six 3-inch balls. Place on wax paper to cool. Store in airtight container.

Death by food...it's probably how I'll go!

Even though I've actually thought I could OD on gummi bears, the phrase "death by gummi bears" sounds a bit ridiculous. However artist Daniela Edburg has made it look amazing, don't you think? The rest of the pictures are way cool, too. Check them out. I love the tupperware one- I know I've had some things in my fridge that I thought could kill me!

Oh, the pain

Ah, nursing. I guess I had it easy with the first two, because this time around is more painful. I think this kid has the hardest suck in the world. Will the pain ever stop?! I'm hoping things will get better soon. Thoughts....advice...?

Well, it's been a week and I'm starting to feel like a "normal" person again. Jackson is a dream. He sleeps great, eats great, poops great. All systems go. Kensie and Lincoln, on the other hand, are driving me nuts! I knew that they would love the baby, but they are completely obsessed with him! Wherever he is, the other two must be also. They must also be no less than an inch away from his face at all times! This is extra annoying when I'm trying to feed him. I've started counting how many times in a day Lincoln kisses Jackson. So far today he has already kissed him 34 times!! At least he's not hitting him, I guess. Lincoln is very loving toward the baby and he'll be a great brother as soon as he gets over this hovering stage (which I hope is soon).

He's Here!

Jackson Daniel Holbrook was born on May 30th at 9:05 a.m. He weighed in at 8 pounds 11 ounces and was 20 inches! No wonder I was miserable. Things went really smoothly this time around and he is a great baby so far. Here's a brief run-down of events:

7:30 a.m.- got to the hospital & proceeded to get into my lovely hospital attire, got an IV, had a billion different nurses and doctors come talk to me, and started to wonder why I was doing this!

8:30 a.m.- walked to the operating room (which was freezing!), got on the table & recieved my spinal which was not nearly as bad as I was preparing myself for. Once I was numb, Matt came in & kept me informed about what they were doing to me moment by moment.

9:05 a.m.- I heard "Here's the head. Boy, you're glad you are having this kid by c-section!". Out he came & everyone commented on how big he was. For the next half hour or so I just lay there looking at the ceiling trying not to laugh as my doctor had an ongoing commentary about 80's music & sang various Tesla songs. I love my doctor!

11:00 (ish) a.m.- I finally got done in recovery & got to go to my room, where everyone is waiting. I got to see little Jackson & hold him for the first time, which was awesome!

The next few days are pretty boring- sleep, nurse, get out of bed, get back in bed, get vitals checked, take drugs, watch t.v., hold Jackson, repeat, repeat, repeat!

I'm so glad to be home now, though walking up the stairs is no treat at the moment! Things are going really well & I'm so happy.
