March was my month to host Gourmet night. "Gourmet" is such a subjective term, don't you think? I would never think of my meals as gourmet, but someone could bring me a pizza and a pre-packaged salad and I would consider it gourmet as long as I didn't have to cook it.
It was a great night, and I'm still recovering! Go here to see what I made...
Some things {for me} to remember when hosting dinner group:
- Try to host in April or May. That way it is still light out when guests arrive {they won't get lost}, and there hopefully won't be a snow storm.
- Try not to host when you are a huge 7-month pregnant person, although it is preferable to being a not so huge 8 week nauseous pregnant person. Or having a newborn.
- Allow your children to play the Wii and watch movies all day so you don't have to clean up after them {or yell at them} 500 times.
- The food will never be as good as the company. Deal with it and move on. {This only applies to me, of course.}
- Using a new recipe without testing it out first sometimes works, but can be disastrous.
- Get a double oven.
- Relax and enjoy yourself. No one will know that hours before they arrived your kitchen was filled with smoke, that you couldn't get the stain out of the carpet, or that most of your recipes didn't quite turn out how you'd have liked them to.

All good advice. You are such a good coook--I always looks forward to gourmet dinner night at your house (and it was even better finding your house with light!) However, the trip home in the fog was another story :-)
Everything was delicious and I loved the table settings. Nice job!
Dar,
Now you don't have to host for another year! That's what I kept telling myself last month as I was in pure panic mode hoping everything turned out. I thought your meal was delicious! It tasted sooo good! I'm with Brooke, though. That drive home was mighty scary. I almost turned around to ask if I could sleep on your couch! :)
You're right, I never noticed a stain, and your house didn't smell smokey at all. It was all yummy and you pulled off a great night! Thanks.
You are too funny! I love the part about the Wii! Now I must say that your table looks fantastic and I went to check out your menu and it looked delicious! Now I want to have a gourmet night, but alas, I have a newborn! I'll wait until he's older, and considered an infant. Thanks for the inspiration! Love your blog. :)
P.S. So tell me more about this gourmet night. How do you do it? Do you and your friends take turns once a month? I was gathering little details from the comments section and this sounds like great fun and something I'd like to start in my town! If you'd like, you can email me at mom2my9@gmail.com. Thank you!
You always make such yummy things. Loved your table setting...sounds like it was a fun night for your group.
